What Is Ceramic Coating?
Ceramic Coating, also known as Nano Coating, is a product applied to surfaces that forms a bond with the substrate. Much like Velcro, the coating molecules interlock with the surface below. This creates a protective layer against environmental materials such as mud, dirt, liquids, and contamination.
The main benefits of Ceramic Coating are to be a sacrificial layer between the surface and the elements. This leaves a hydrophobic surface that can aid in ease of cleaning. The easiest way to describe a coating, is “wax on steroids”. A freshly waxed vehicle has a brilliant, glossy finish, and is much easier to wash than a vehicle with no protection. Unfortunately, waxes tend to wear off quite quickly, in some cases after only a wash or two.
Coatings can only be removed by abrasion and/or extreme chemicals. If regular and proper maintenance protocols are followed, coatings will last beyond their warrantied lifespan and will keep the surface protected and looking great for years to come!
Revolutionary Self Healing Coatings

This means if you acquire minor scratches, swirl marks, marring, or staining on your coated vehicle, applying some heat (via hot water or a heat gun) will diminish the defects and restore the surface. What Can A Ceramic Coating Do?
As previously mentioned, a ceramic coating is comparable to a “wax on steroids”. There are a few differences between them, particularly how long they last and their durability. First and foremost, ceramic coatings are designed to bond to the material they are applied to, whereas waxes and sealants just sit on top of the surface. This leads to an increased lifespan unlike the others!
Secondly, ceramic coatings are durable. This means getting rained on or washing the vehicle properly will not degrade a ceramic coating, whereas waxes and sealants will typically wash off. They are also more resistant than their lesser counterparts, and rarely degrade with the use of chemicals.
Finally, ceramic coatings lock in the finish of the surface they are applied to. If a coating is installed by an inexperienced person, any defects (swirls, contamination, marring, etc.) gets trapped underneath the coating. For this reason, it is important to ensure your installer is experienced and knows how to prep and use the products!
What Can't A Ceramic Coating Do?
This is a touchy subject for many people, as there is a LOT of misinformation out there! Certain brands, shops, and installers have unfortunately released a ton of half truths or straight up lies surrounding ceramic coatings. Hopefully these can put some of them to rest and help you decide whether or not coating is right for you!
There is NO ceramic coating on the market that prevents scratches, dents, or other defects. It is impossible for a protectant that is only microns thick to resist these types of damages. While it is true there are coatings that are self healing if you get minor swirls or marring, they do not prevent the damage from occurring, and not all defects can be healed out.
Last but not least, ceramic coatings do not mean you never have to wash your vehicle again. This is unfortunately another misinterpretation by inexperienced installers. Ceramic coatings make the surface easier to clean, but do not replace the process entirely. Contamination is less likely to stick, and the surface is hydrophobic, which in turn makes washing faster and less of a chore to do.

Ceramic coatings aren’t right for everyone, but they are absolutely an asset to protecting your vehicle.
